Weekend Kudos :: 12th March, 2012

Weekend Kudos is my way of recognising those who have put in significant efforts over the weekend in their respective race disciplines. It's not so much about the placings or results, it is more for the effort that has been put in. As a rider, I appreciate the encouragement I receive when I put in the effort to do my best so it is only fitting that I repay the favours.

First and foremost a big kudos to Rob Brand for participating in the WCMCC Age Division Championships in an age bracket that had some very strong A grade riders amongst the start list. Rob is a regular D grade rider (almost C grade though, Rob) and didn't seem to let the strength of the field intimidate him one bit. While he may not have finished with the bunch, he still finished the event. Give yourself a big pat on the back, Rob. There would not be too many riders out there with the guts to mix it up with such a strong group, well done.

Kudos to Alan Flanders for breaking the 40 km/h barrier at the ATTA 40km Championships - with a 00:01:26 PB and a +00:12:31 Std Time to boot!! That new Shiv must definitely be proving itself and given Al some extra kick. As he gets more and more comfortable with that new bike I can only see him getting better and better. Great job Al, 01:00:22 is a fantastic result and knowing you as I do, you will have wanted the sub-1 hour ride. I have no doubt you will get there.

Kudos to John Sonego for a strong ride at the ATTA 40km Championships. John had been away on leave for the week leading up to this event and had not touched a bike the whole time. To come back and hammer the ride with a sub-1 hour (00:59:22) 41.3 km/h effort is still an incredible result - especially with a +00:07:18 Std Time. Strong effort John, well done.

Kudos to Andrew Patterson (AP) for what I believe was his first ride amongst the Open Mens A grade ranks at the Northern Districts CC Summer Criterium at Osborne Park. While he reported that he found the race a hard one and finished off the back of the group, he should be proud of himself for giving it a go - especially on the back of another "Monty" of an effort in the hills on Saturday morning. Given the level of form that AP is currently in, I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to line up with Elite company and I'm sure AP will take a lot from the race and use it as a gauge for where he is at and where he wants to be.

  1. Don't forget yourself there Charlie - outstanding effort staying with your age group with more than your fair share of A grade riders. Everyone looking in form for UCI....
