Weekend Kudos :: 4th March, 2012

Weekend Kudos is my way of recognising those who have put in significant efforts over the weekend in their respective race disciplines. It's not so much about the placings or results, it is more for the effort that has been put in. This week's Kudos is given to a number of riders who have managed to push their limits to achieve some cracking results.

Kudos to Andrew Patterson (AP) who seems to be the only person I know with the courage to get down to Pemberton for what Brad Hall believes to be "one of the hardest and gruelling events on the race calendar" - the Pemberton Classic. AP braved the heat and an unknown field to finish 9th in Saturday's Criterium and 6th in Sunday's Road Race. Well done AP!

Kudos to Alan Flanders for his first successfully completed TT on the new Shiv. Al completed the Hopelands TT with memorable results: 40km ITT completed in 01:01:14 @ 39.3 km/h average. This was a PB for Alan by 02:35 and was a +10:10 standard time. Looks like the new Shiv has made a distinct difference already. I look forward to seeing his result improve in the coming weeks.

Kudos to Dave Ellis for coming down to the WCMCC Kewdale Crits and competing for the first time (trial ride) in C grade and pulling off a 4th for his trouble. Dave kept to the front of the bunch for the majority of the race and was only pipped at the end by the renowned sprinters in the field. I hope to see Dave competing more often. He's a strong rider and some race experience will only see him improve.

Kudos to Jamie Kirkwood whom I have had the pleasure of racing against during last year's road race programme and with whom I train with during Brad's Tuesday Kings Park sessions. Jamie has spent a few months out of racing/riding and has since put in some solid training to get his form back up and managed to pull off a 2nd place in the WCMCC Kewdale Criterium (B Grade) this morning. A great return to racing, Jamie. Well ridden today!
