Easter Kudos :: 10th April, 2012

Easter (Weekend) Kudos is my way of recognising those who have put in significant efforts over the weekend in their respective race disciplines. It's not so much about the placings or results, it is more for the effort that has been put in. As a rider, I appreciate the encouragement I receive when I put in the effort to do my best so it is only fitting that I repay the favours.

It seems the weekend was solely for the time trialists with two mornings of impressive racing against the clock on both Good Friday and Easter Monday with 16km and 80/40km events respectively.

Matt Illingworth seemed to have an Easter weekend to remember with two impressive rides and topping the rankings ladder each time. in the 16km ride, Matt came in just 10 seconds ahead of AJ Giacoppo with a monstrous 00:20:26, 47.2 km/h result. Matt then continued his strong weekend with an incredible course record breaking 01:49:01, 45.0 km/h ride, stripping a remarkable 1 minute, 15 seconds from his previous course record and some five and a half minutes ahead of his closest rival on the day. Well done Matt, clearly you are in some scintillating form at the moment.

Also having good outings on Good Friday were Alan Flanders and John Sonego with Al riding in at 00:23:27, 41.2 km/h and John coming with a strong 00:22:22, 43.2 km/h. Neither gents posted a PB for the day but this was more than made up for on Easter Monday where the foggy conditions saw them both post impressive PBs. Al rode the 40km option coming in at a fantastic 8th overall just breaking the magic 1 hour mark with a PB 00:59:58, 40.9 km/h. John took on the gruelling 80km option and place an incredible 6th overall and breaking the equally magic 2 hour mark with a PB 01:57:51, 41.6 km/h ride. Clearly these two are finding some great form at the moment also and I hope they are able to keep it through the course of the winter months.

Also taking part in the Easter Monday time trials as part of her preparation for the Busselton Half Ironman was Emma Gillard posting an incredible 02:12:41, 37.0 km/h ride. This included an impressive +25:33 standard time giving her a well deserved PB of a monstrous 00:15:01 which was the second highest PB for the day and placed her 4th female rider overall. Keep up the fantastic work, Emz!
